Artificial intelligence and Beethoven’s “unfinished” 10th symphony

Beethoven’s “unfinished” 10th symphony has been further completed with the help of artificial intelligence. Ludwig van Beethoven did not finish the work before his death in 1827. But for the anniversary of his 250th birthday last year, the piece has now been written on by computers on the basis of his notes and notes. The conductor Dirk Kaftan recently said in Bonn: O-TON DIRK KAFTAN “It is not the case that the computer spat out the one valid version, but the computer spat out several variants, from which people then made a selection again. And Beethoven has now got pregnant with his works. He carried his notepad with him, filing it until he had the one version that was perfect. That means the question cannot be answered clearly. I think it sounds to Beethoven. There are moments when this spirit really appears. But when someone asks me: Is that Beethoven? The answer is: No. ” The head of the project is the IT expert Matthias Röder. MATTHIAS RÖDER “And that’s why I believe that if a composer like Ludwig van Beethoven lived today, then he would probably not only have a large technology team around him to help him, but he would use precisely such technologies for his art. And for me, art is not something that is fixed in space and is the same forever, but that changes with the world. And today we can experience that as witnesses. ” Behind the project is a team of musicologists and programmers who started the ambitious venture together with Deutsche Telekom. The reconstruction is limited to the third and fourth movements. And how the composition will be received by the audience remains to be seen. But, as an interesting experiment, it has definitely attracted some attention by now.
