Argentina: Numerous arrests at football game



STORY: Mass arrests on the sidelines of a soccer game in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires. Ahead of the River Plate-Argentinos Juniors cup game, more than 250 fans were arrested for carrying knives, drugs and phosphorus flares, police said. Footage from Buenos Aires police shows the arrested fans lying on the ground in front of River Plate’s stadium and then being driven away in police vehicles. Violence is common at soccer games in Argentina. According to local media, most of the arrested fans were known to be violent criminals and their names were stored in a relevant database.

Those arrested are said to have tried to smuggle weapons and drugs into the stadium.
