Video: Alternative meat from the 3D printer

STORY: His name is “Angus”. This is a new 3D printer designed for larger quantities that can produce very different meat alternatives from plant-based ingredients. This printer here is in Rehovot in central Israel at the company Redefine Meat. Co-founder and Managing Director Eshchar Ben-Shitrit on the background: “Over the last two years we have worked intensively on understanding meat and finding out what is so exciting about it. We were able to identify some components that we can imitate from plants. They have the same characteristics as the tissue of meat. So with special processing you get exactly the feeling you get from a good steak that comes from an animal – but without the animal.” The machine was designed for commercial use and, according to the company, can produce several tons of alternative meat per day. The company has a total of eight machines. Two in Israel and six in the Netherlands, where the factory is expected to be fully operational from December. But this product comes at a price. Because according to the producers, the cost of a corresponding “alternative steak” made from plant-based ingredients in a restaurant is around 40 euros.
