Video: Again anti-government protests in Tel Aviv – tens of thousands on the streets

STORY: On Saturday, tens of thousands of people again demonstrated in Israel against the planned judicial reform of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government. They accuse the head of government of endangering the democratic control of the ministers by the courts. Therefore, the future of Israeli democracy is at stake. Netanyahu has described the protests, which have been going on for weeks, as a refusal by left-wing opponents to recognize the results of the November 2022 election. After the election, he formed an alliance of religious fundamentalists and right-wing nationalists. Netanyahu’s conservative Likud party has long accused the Supreme Court of being dominated by left-leaning judges who, for political reasons, meddle in areas beyond their jurisdiction. Just a few days ago, the court ordered Netanyahu to dismiss the new interior minister, Aryeh Deri, after being convicted of tax violations. A trial is currently underway against Netanyahu himself over allegations of corruption.
