stop with your lies by Olivier Peyon smells of the bittersweet scent of loves lost but never forgotten. This adaptation of a book by Philippe Besson brings together Stéphane, a mature writer (Guillaume de Tonquédec) and Thomas (Victor Belmondo discovered in Fly Me And Albatross), the son of the boy he passionately loved – and then lost – when he was a teenager. This mutual discovery will be a good way to make peace with this man whom both loved, each in their own way, after having known him at different periods of his life.
“It’s a particularly poignant story because it really happened to Philippe Besson, confides Victor Belmondo to 20 minutes. It touched my heart by the impression of waste that emanates from it. Homosexuality was not acceptable in the provinces when the two young people fell in love. They have not been able to flourish together, which has had painful consequences for them and for those around them.
A story of parentage
“Thomas needs to understand his father before living his adult life himself,” says Victor Belmondo. The title stop with your lies corresponds to this need for truth from which the two heroes will emerge appeased. “Son of Paul and grandson of Jean-Paul Belmondo, the 29-year-old actor did not think of his own parentage when accepting the role. “In this film, I incarnate a “son of”, says Victor Belmondo, but in life, this questioning does not tickle me. I confess that I had not even thought of it when accepting the role. »
His delicate performance echoes that of his soberly moving partner and Guilaine Londez whose “foufou” side hides a real gravity while she tries to maintain a semblance of serenity between the tortured heroes. “I even wrote my character’s bio to understand what he had been through before the events of the film. Thanks to him, Thomas vibrates with a skin-deep sensitivity that he yields to aggressiveness, beguiles or reveals his deepest flaws.
“I don’t know if talent is hereditary,” says Victor Belmondo. I was immersed in the cinema world from my childhood, but I am unable to say if it is for this reason that I felt the need to do the actor. I can only say that I worked to achieve it. “His dazzling naturalness shows that his efforts have borne fruit: we have not finished seeing the talented Victor Belmondo on the screen and we are delighted.
