Verdi: warning strikes at 40 companies – economy

In parts of local public transport, passengers in certain parts of Germany will have to prepare for failures and delays again this Wednesday. The reason is mostly all-day warning strikes by the Verdi union at some transport companies in the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

The union wants to put pressure on the negotiations for the railway collective agreement (ETV), which applies to around 40 transport companies with around 5,000 employees. Verdi is demanding a wage increase of 550 euros for them. The employers offer a special payment of 1080 euros and twelve monthly one-off payments of 160 euros as well as a wage increase of 150 euros and 4.8 percent in the coming year. Negotiations will continue in Fulda on Friday.

These 40 transport companies are not covered by the collective agreement for the public service of the federal and local authorities, which was agreed on at the weekend. They also have nothing to do with the currently ongoing collective bargaining at Deutsche Bahn and other railway companies, which are currently being conducted by the railway and transport union EVG.
