Did you miss the early morning news? We have concocted a recap to help you see more clearly.

While France has been starting “a decrease in the epidemic” of coronavirus for several days, Olivier Véran took the opportunity to talk about deconfinement. In an interview with TelegramMonday evening, the Minister of Health said he was in favor of an exit from confinement “territory by territory”. On the other hand, he says he is “neither optimistic nor pessimistic” about the health situation.

In the trial of Derek Chauvin, the jury, which has just withdrawn Monday to deliberate, will have the difficult task of agreeing on a verdict unanimously. In oral argument, the prosecution insisted, “You can trust your eyes, it wasn’t policing, it was murder. The accused is guilty. The ex-police officer refused to testify, his lawyer tried to sow a “reasonable doubt” in the minds of the jury on the cause of death of George Floyd, assuring that many factors – the drugs and the condition of the heart of the victim, in particular – had played, before demanding his acquittal. For the most serious charge, unintentional second-degree murder, Derek Chauvin risks in theory between 10 and 15 years of imprisonment.

The Minister Delegate for Citizenship will open this Tuesday “States General of Secularism”. The kick-off will be given at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts in Paris “with a high-level conference between intellectuals of all sensibilities”, specifies in Sunday Newspaper Marlène Schiappa. Until the summer, “round tables and working groups on freedom of expression, research, youth, civic integration” will be organized. These States General are, however, already under fire from critics. “We do not have a debate after a law”, denounced on France Info EELV MEP Yannick Jadot, referring to the bill fighting against “separatism”.
