To say it right away: the conductor Václav Luks is not and probably will not be a new Nikolaus Harnoncourt. His approach to the contemporary performance of baroque and classical works is completely different. His performance practice is historical, but in a surprisingly idiosyncratic way. He is less oriented towards the original sound and baroque playing practice than towards the great performance tradition of the 19th century, when people were just beginning to rediscover the old masters. It was only natural that they wanted to present them in the most magnificent tones and with the largest possible ensemble.
