In Venice it is finally clear why the train ride was worth it. Once you have left the Santa Lucia train station and are ready for the Serenissima, the Grand Canal lies in front of one of the banks, and the marble steps of San Simeone Piccolo on the other side of the bank. There is no more impressive way to get here than by train. Even if the train station itself is not one of the most beautiful in Italy, it is certainly the one with the most impressive arrival.
