US President Joe Biden was vilified by a caller at a traditional Christmas event on Christmas Eve. Together with his wife Jill, Biden took calls from children and their parents on the so-called “Santa Clause Radar” in the White House asking them for Santa Clause’s current position. A father said goodbye with the sentence “Let’s go Brandon” (literally translated: “Let’s go Brandon”). Surprisingly, Biden replied to the caller with “Let’s go Brandon, I agree.” (“Let’s go, Brandon, I agree.”) It is not known whether Biden has recognized the associated insult, and the White House initially did not comment.
The sentence is actually a diatribe that some conservatives and supporters of ex-US President Donald Trump use to denigrate the incumbent US President. It goes back to a Nascar car race in October. In an interview with the winner of the race, Brandon Brown, the TV reporter referred to the chants from the stands in the background: “You can hear the chants from the crowd,“ Let’s go Brandon! ”The crowd was chanting very clearly, however “Fuck Joe Biden.” Within a very short time, “Let’s go Brandon” became the code for insulting the US President.
The so-called Santa tracker has been around for decades. Volunteers operated the service of the North American Air and Space Defense Command (NORAD), with which the flight of “Santa Claus” around the world is followed on radar screens.
