The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has opened an investigation into Boeing. The FAA said it should investigate whether the US aircraft manufacturer had carried out the required inspections of its machines and whether documents had been falsified by employees.
Boeing had previously announced that employees had falsified test reports on the long-haul 787 “Dreamliner” jet. Inspections of the connection between the fuselage and the wings were partly omitted and nevertheless recorded as having been carried out. At the same time, the company emphasized that this was not an urgent safety problem for the current airline fleet and that no aircraft would have to remain on the ground.
The inspections are intended to ensure a safe and functioning flow of electricity between the individual components of the aircraft.
Boeing employee reported “irregularity”
“The FAA is investigating whether Boeing completed inspections and whether company employees falsified aircraft reports,” the agency said. At the same time, Boeing is checking all 787 aircraft within the production system. The problem became known after a Boeing employee observed an “irregularity” and contacted a department manager, who passed on the information.
There have been a series of technical breakdowns on Boeing aircraft in recent months. The company is also under political pressure. Last week, the US Senate addressed the security problems in a hearing. Boeing engineer Sam Salehpour, who had contacted the FAA as an informant with warnings about the safety of the Dreamliner models, also testified.
