The tall Russian and the much smaller Ukrainian seemed to be a perfect match from the start. When Maxim Chashchegorov and Katherina Markowskaja met each other at the Bavarian State Ballet in 2010, they say, it quickly sparked. dancing. Both develop an elegant symbiosis of grace, expression and movement. “We could feel each other well,” explains the native of Kiev, “you can imagine what it’s like to run with someone who has the same pace. Same step size. You don’t have to adapt, slow down or take smaller or larger steps. It all fits.” Her professionally inspired pas de deux increasingly morphed into more romantic sequences of steps. Markovskaya and Chashchegorov have also been a private couple since 2013.
