Unterschleißheim – lights on in the commercial area – district of Munich

In numerous municipalities in Bavaria, street lighting is now switched off at night to save energy; For example, the citizens of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz have to do without brightly lit streets from midnight to 5 a.m. In view of the energy crisis, the city council in Unterschleißheim also agreed at its meeting in November to partially and temporarily switch off the lighting in the city’s streets – but the most populous municipality in the Munich district has now moved away from this again.

Actually, the streets in the commercial area, like in Neumarkt, should no longer be illuminated from midnight to 5 a.m. But now, according to a statement from the town hall administration, it has become clear that it is technically not possible not to illuminate individual streets because several streets are combined into circuits. A detailed analysis by Bayernwerke revealed that the number of streets that are not connected to purely residential areas is relatively small, the town hall reports. “Under no circumstances should residential areas be affected by the energy saving measure,” it continues. Now the capacities of the building administration are to be used to press ahead with the conversion of the street lighting to LEDs, which has already been decided.
