Unterschleißheim – It stays bright in the commercial area – district of Munich

The city of Unterschleißheim has abandoned its original plan to turn off streetlights in the commercial area at night. The project, which was intended to save energy, was presented and approved by the City Council’s Environment and Transport Committee in the autumn. But a closer examination by the Bayernwerk has now shown that the whole thing would be very time-consuming and in the end only a few streets could really remain in the dark. Because the aim of the town hall was really only to do without lighting where nobody lives. And there are hardly any commercial streets without a residential area, it is now said. In addition, it would have taken up to three months to reprogram the systems to keep the lanterns off. The city will therefore now make greater use of its construction management capacities to speed up the conversion to LED street lighting that has already been decided.
