Unterföhring: New Year’s Concert by the Salzburg Philharmonic – District of Munich

Like hardly any other composer of the 20th century, George Gershwin knew how to combine jazz and blues with symphony and how to write sophisticated classical and popular music at the same time. Born in New York in 1898 as a child of Russian-Jewish immigrants, Gershwin (actually Jacob Gershovitz) would have turned 125 this year – so it’s fitting that his most famous work, alongside the opera “Porgy and Bess”, “Rhapsody in Blue” was performed at the Philharmonie’s New Year’s concert Salzburg in Unterföhring is the focus. The young Austrian Elias Keller will take on the challenging pianistic part on Wednesday, January 4th, in the community center. In 2016, at the age of just eight, he was the youngest candidate to date at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since then he has gained plenty of international concert experience and has been awarded various prizes. The Salzburg Philharmonic, founded in 1998, will accompany him on “Rhapsody in Blue” under the direction of conductor Erika Fuchs. Of course, the orchestra will also present the melodies of the waltz king Johann Strauss, which are almost obligatory at the turn of the year, to the Unterföhring audience. The concert starts at 8 p.m., tickets are available online at www.buergerhaus-unterfoehring.de.
