Uniper: After nationalization, nobody wants the group anymore – economy

It is a company of sad superlatives: the energy supplier Uniper reported at the end of 2022 that a loss of more than 40 billion euros was expected for the first nine months of last year. Even if the company surprisingly announced on Wednesday afternoon that business is going better again and losses will be lower – it’s a disaster. The culprits are the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Gazprom’s freeze on gas supplies – and management’s naivety. At the end of last year, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck nationalized the Düsseldorf company: it is the most expensive company rescue since the financial crisis.
