Unions and associations call on Emmanuel Macron to complete the project

“Mr. President of the Republic, for young people, go to the end of your commitment!” »Write twenty organizations, including CFDT, UNEF, ATD Fourth World or even Emmaüs France and the Abbé Pierre Foundation, in an open letter published on Monday. And precisely, this letter concerns… the commitment income, proposed by Emmanuel Macron and which was to be set up for the start of the school year.

Inspired by the Youth Guarantee, an intensive course of individual and collective support with recognized success, this project was to make the payment of an income of 500 euros conditional on a hiring of a young person aged 16 to 25 without employment or training. . “We are worried,” say the signatories of the open letter. “Yet from the start, our organizations supported the idea of a response for all young people without family support who experience situations of poverty. “

“An unthought of our system of intergenerational solidarity”

“The health and social crisis has once again highlighted an unthought of our intergenerational solidarity system and a blind spot in our public policies: the situation of young people under 25 in precariousness”, they add. “The queues in front of food distribution places such as emergency aid deployed by associations have shown how dire the situation is”.

“Even though the economic situation is better than expected, we have returned to the pre-crisis situation. One in five young people still live below the poverty line and many of them face serious difficulties in obtaining a stable job ”, insist the authors of the letter, pleading that“ we have no more time to procrastinate ” .
