Unattended 11-month-old baby falls from fifth floor



An 11 month old baby died this Thursday following a fall from the fifth floor of a building in Versailles (Yvelines), reports The Parisian. The baby’s parents were cleaning their apartment and had opened the living room window to ventilate. “They both left the main room for a moment and that’s when the infant managed to climb on the sofa and then fell out the window,” reports a source close to the file cited by Le Parisien .

An investigation has been entrusted to the Yvelines departmental security, which will have to define the responsibility of parents. According to article 227-17 of the Penal Code, the fact of “evading one’s legal obligations to the point of compromising the health or safety of one’s minor child” is punishable by two years’ imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 euros. .

On Wednesday July 28, a similar drama almost happened in Epône (Yvelines), when a 2-year-old girl climbed onto a balcony and stuck her head through the bars. Fortunately, she was soon spotted and the police intervened while the mother of the child was absent. The child was taken into care by social services.
