Because he has so far remained silent on the war between Russia and Ukraine, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk is said to lose all honors from his homeland.

In the course of the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian association is taking disciplinary action against record international player Anatoliy Tymoshchuk. According to the association’s Ethics and Fair Play Committee, a series of sanctions have been ordered that will effectively erase the former Bayern player from the country’s footballing history.

The background is that the 42-year-old has not made any statements about the Russian invasion so far. The statement said: “Not only has Tymoshchuk, a former captain of the Ukrainian national team, not yet commented on the subject, but he has also not ended his cooperation with the aggressor’s club.”

Ukrainian FA want to remove Tymoshchuk from history

Tymoshchuk is an assistant coach at Zenit St. Petersburg and, unlike his compatriot Andriy Voronin, has not yet decided to resign. Voronin had resigned from his position as assistant to Sandro Schwarz at Dynamo Moscow. According to the ethics committee, Tymoshchuk’s behavior damages the image of Ukrainian football, which is why the committee requested four measures for the association’s top management to implement.

Firstly, Tymoshchuk’s coaching license issued by the Ukrainian licensor is to be revoked. Second, the committee is asking local authorities to withdraw all state awards and honorary degrees. Thirdly, Tymoshchuk should be stripped of all titles in Ukrainian football, i.e. championships and cup wins. And fourth, he should be removed from the register of national players.

Tymoshchuk played for Bayern Munich between 2009 and 2013, before that he was a professional player for Shakhtar Donetsk and St. Petersburg. In 2017 he ended his active career with the Kazakh club Kairat Almaty. With Bayern he was twice champion, twice DFB Cup winner and 2013 Champions League winner. With 144 caps, he is also Ukraine’s record player.
