Chancellor Scholz and French President Macron have urged the Russian President to call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Putin, on the other hand, demanded that the two heads of government should influence Kyiv.
According to the federal government, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine in a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Scholz and Putin also called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. This was announced by government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit after a phone call between Scholz and Macron and Putin. The midday interview lasted 75 minutes. The Kremlin chief had also warned both to initiate a process for a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Putin accuses Ukraine of war crimes
The Kremlin said Putin informed Scholz and Macron about “the real situation” in Ukraine during the conversation. The Kremlin chief accused the Ukrainian army of “extrajudicial executions of dissidents,” “taking hostages and using civilians as shields.” Putin called on both of them to influence the government in Kyiv to stop “these criminal activities”.
Scholz had previously spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to hear his assessment of the current situation.
