Biden personally takes responsibility for Putin at the United Nations

Hold Russia accountable for Ukraine war crimes

US President Joe Biden says Russia must be held accountable for war crimes in Ukraine. There was “more appalling evidence” of Russian atrocities and war crimes, Biden said in his speech at the general debate at the UN General Assembly.

Specifically, it was a man who drove Russia’s “brutal and unnecessary war” against Ukraine, US President Joe Biden emphasized at the United Nations. Putin’s state is “shamelessly” violating the UN Charter.

IIn clear words, US President Joe Biden accused Russia of waging a “brutal and unnecessary war” at the United Nations, which was specifically driven by “one man”: Vladimir Putin. Russia is “shamelessly” violating the UN charter by invading its neighbor and trying to wipe Ukraine off the map.

“Russia wants to destroy Ukraine’s right to exist. Whoever you are, wherever you live, whatever you believe, this should make your blood run cold,” Biden said. He also stressed: “No one threatened Russia. Nobody but Russia sought the conflict”.

Russia is also the only country standing in the way of a peaceful solution. “We stand in solidarity with Ukraine. Period.” As US President, he rejects the use of force and war to expand one’s own borders. Russia keeps trying to portray the global food crisis as a result of the sanctions against the Putin regime. Therefore, Biden felt compelled to emphasize: “Our sanctions explicitly allow the export of food and fertilizer – without limit!”

In his speech, Biden also called for the number of member states in the UN Security Council to be expanded – with nations from Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and states that the US has “long supported in this”. Also, members of the Security Council should only use their right of veto in “rare cases” in order to guarantee the body’s ability to act. On Tuesday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for Germany to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“We don’t want a cold war with China”

The US President also commented on the growing competition with China. “We don’t want any conflict or a cold war.” No country has to choose between the USA and China – but America is committed to an open, free and secure world. This also means that the US “will not allow” Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. The US stands with the “brave women of Iran” demonstrating for basic human rights.

The future will be won by states that exploit the full potential of their people – where women and girls have the right to abortion, where religious and ethnic minorities can live in peace, where criticism of the political leadership is allowed. “We are not passive witnesses to history. We are their authors,” Biden concluded his speech.
