Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier assured the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj of Germany’s broad support in a video call. “We support Ukraine politically, humanitarian, financially, militarily – with what we can and what is necessary, coordinated with our allies,” Steinmeier said in the call, as his spokeswoman Cerstin Gammelin said on Twitter.
The Federal Republic stands “firmly by your side,” Steinmeier assured his Ukrainian counterpart. Both countries have “gone through ups and downs” over the past three decades. Germany has supported Ukraine politically and economically on its way towards Europe, “but our partnership has never been as important as it is now,” added the Federal President, referring to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for almost a year.
