Inseparable and in almost perfect symbiosis: 17-year-old Yana Zelieva and her fluffy cat Zaika. They have more than 1000 kilometers behind them and a multitude of terrible experiences: “We are in Karpaty. That is in Ukraine and we arrived there after the first bombs we heard. It happened very quickly and we were worried and scared that our lives could be over.” On Wednesday they arrived in Hrebenne in Poland. The teenager fled from Kyiv with her mother. And her hangover is like a child to her. Despite all the misfortune, she has something with the fluffy four-legged friend that helps her to deal with the difficult situation better. Because the journey goes on. And who knows what the future holds for them? Zelieva and her mother are among more than 3 million people who have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on February 24, according to the United Nations – 1.8 million of them to Poland.
