UEFA withdraws threat of legal action against Gießen pizzeria over “Champignons League” pizza

The big UEFA took on a small pizzeria in Gießen for a short time. But now the association has given in.

The European football association UEFA is now refraining from a lawsuit against a pizzeria from Giessen. In an official letter, UEFA initially pointed out the alleged risk of confusion between the “Champignons League” pizza offered by “Pizza Wolke” and the Champions League, to which it owns the naming rights, and threatened legal action.

In an email to Hessian radio UEFA has now announced that an employee acted “too eagerly and too hastily” in this case. The association can “live very well with the delicious-sounding pizza”.

Great media response to UEFA lawyer’s letter

Shademan Souri, the owner of “Pizza Wolke”, had published the first letter from a lawyer commissioned by UEFA via social media this week, triggering a negative response for the association.

UEFA was initially bothered by the fact that Souri not only offers the “Champignons League” pizza in his restaurant, but also as a frozen version in stores. But now the retreat followed.
