In “Two to One,” the opening film of the Munich Film Festival, which begins on Friday, the West only appears briefly, as a world of steel and glass photographed in cold blue tones. Here, in the rooms of the Bundesbank, an invisible machine was recently set in motion, a kind of vacuum cleaner of history that is now being aimed at the GDR – the devaluation of the East German mark and the introduction of the German mark. But banknotes only ever have the value that people attach to them.
