Two months in prison, to be carried out under an electronic bracelet, were required on Wednesday against rapper Ademo, star of the PNL group. He is on trial in Paris for “contempt” and “rebellion” after his eventful arrest by the police last September.

The prosecution also asked for a five-month suspended prison sentence and a 1,000-euro fine against the 34-year-old musician, Tarik Andrieu whose real name was, who did not appear at the hearing. The court will deliver its decision on May 5.

The rapper was arrested while preparing a joint of cannabis while walking in the street in Paris, with his wife and their son in a stroller. On the images of his arrest, which have been widely circulated on social networks, we see Ademo being virulent towards the police, then being pinned to the ground while passers-by insult the police.

A “all-profit operation”

Officials say they did not recognize the rapper. “He tells me, what are you going to do, you don’t know who I am,” a police officer testified in court. The latter would have been the target of “threats” which he then received on social networks from many fans calling for “finding” the police officers responsible for his arrest.

Three of the four officials who had arrested him told the stand that the rapper was “immediately aggressive” and had insulted them many times. For those who come from a “delinquent culture”, the filmed and very shared arrest is a “very beneficial operation”, judged the lawyer of several police officers, Me Thibault de Montbrial, for whom the reaction of the accused would be similar to a staging.

Two opposing versions

For his part, Tarik Andrieu had explained that he was “surprised” when the police officer had tapped him on the shoulder, arguing that he did not want to attract attention, but that the police had been violent. “In fact, you have versions which are the same but with the roles reversed”, summarizes the judge.

The PNL group has “not a word, not a clip” anti-police, insists the lawyer of the rapper, Me Vincent Brengarth, who assures that his client would have been well without the “publicity” by qualifying the arrest of “Completely disproportionate”.

The PNL group – Ademo and his brother NOS – has enjoyed phenomenal success in France since 2015. The group was launched by the song The world or nothing, whose clip was shot in La Scampia, a popular neighborhood in the suburbs of Naples.
