Two evenings in honor of the late writer Milan Kundera – Munich

Milan Kundera became world famous in the mid-1980s with his novel “The Unbearable Lightness of Being.” The Czech-French writer died four months ago at the age of 94. At the end of his life he was once again a citizen of both his home countries, which is why the Institut Français and the Czech Center want to honor him together.

On November 9th there will be an evening of discussion about the role of these countries in Kundera’s self-image and the effects of exile on his work. Admission is free, and the documentary “Milan Kundera – The Irony of Being” from 2022 will be shown following the conversation. There’s even more Kundera the next day: This Workshop cinema will show the film adaptation of his novel “The Joke” by Jaromil Jires from 1968 on November 10th.
