two drowned in a month in a prohibited part of Lake Achard

Thursday, at the end of the afternoon, a forty-something drowned in the body of water of Lake Achard, in Illkirch-Graffenstaden, near Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin according to our colleagues from France 3. This is the second drama of this kind in a month, while this part of the lake is however prohibited for swimming.

The intervention of the firefighters, around 6:30 p.m., did not save this 44-year-old man. The victim, a father, was pronounced dead at the scene following his drowning.

A dangerous area prohibited to swimmers

The man was found in a part of the lake normally prohibited for swimming because of its dangerousness, in particular for the whirlpools of water which can drag a swimmer to the bottom.

It is also in this same sector that a 22-year-old woman died, also drowned, on June 19. After the report of his disappearance, it had taken more than two hours for the rescuers to find his body which had remained at the bottom of the water.
