Twitter owner Elon Musk and his lawyers are likely to go to court frequently in the new year – because not only former employees are suing the billionaire, but also creditors. A landlord from San Francisco is now joining them.

After Elon Musk took power on Twitter, a different wind is blowing at the formerly dazzling company. Above all, Musk wants one thing: to cut expenses, save money – and if necessary, with a crowbar. To do this, he fired a large part of the workforce right from the start and gradually stopped paying liabilities, such as rent for the offices. Unsurprisingly, the CEO is now faced with a wave of lawsuits that could cost him more than the money he saved.

Twitter field office shut down

The latest case comes from San Francisco, home of Twitter. There, too, Musk had apparently stopped paying rent arrears, leaving $136,260 in arrears for a floor in the Hartford Building, reports the “Wall Street Journal“. The premises are not Twitter’s headquarters on Market Street, about two miles away, but a field office.

It is said that the landlord reminded Twitter in mid-December that Twitter would be in arrears if the rent for the offices on the 30th floor of the building was not received within five business days – apparently nothing happened.

The Wall Street Journal reports that other companies, including a transportation company and a software vendor, have also filed lawsuits in recent weeks.

Auctions and toilet paper

How important the savings are for Musk can also be seen elsewhere. In mid-January, a considerable part of his new company’s office equipment will be auctioned off, including above all professional canteen equipment and lots of furniture.

Recently, Twitter made the headlines because current and former employees of the “New York Times” reported on the current conditions at headquarters. It is said that the office is visibly deteriorating due to the termination of contracts with cleaning companies and has now taken on a musty smell, caused by food leftovers and offices that are too narrow. The daily newspaper reported that some employees are now even bringing their toilet paper with them (find out more here).
