Twelve vehicles destroyed in Ottobrunn: Series of arson attacks continues – Munich

In a suspected arson attack in Ottobrunn on Wednesday night, twelve vehicles belonging to a building management company were severely damaged and in some cases completely destroyed.

At around 2:15 a.m., the police and volunteer fire brigade were called to the fire in an industrial park where arms companies such as Airbus and Hensoldt are based. The twelve delivery vans were on fire in a parking lot near the building management company. Because all of the cars apparently started burning at the same time, the police have ruled out a technical defect and are investigating deliberate arson.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but the damage is still considerable: the police estimate it at around 300,000 euros. They are looking for witnesses who made suspicious observations on Lise-Meitner-Strasse and Marie-Curie-Strasse.

There have been at least 30 such arson attacks in Munich and the surrounding area since 2019. The arsonists mostly target so-called “critical infrastructure” facilities, including bridges, railway lines, and power lines. The other targets were forestry machines, warehouses, and construction site vehicles.

The police headquarters then set up the “Raute” investigation team and is looking into the political background of the arson attacks. The investigation team has also become involved in the most recent case, and the Attorney General’s Office has also taken over the case. It is responsible for state security crimes.
