TV round with Anne Will: Norbert Röttgen dribbles himself tight – media

What such an election result can achieve: the Greens and the FDP, who have cultivated their mutual dislike for many years, are suddenly looking happily for common ground. In the SPD, which was just lying on the ground, the bone-dry Olaf Scholz not only wants to govern as Chancellor as Helmut Schmidt-esque as possible, but also create affection between all partners. And the Union, which has suffered a fall from hell, is desperately trying to keep the narrow crack in the door open for a Jamaican coalition, even though it is currently dismantling on the open stage. There is a fitting expression for this in English: hoping against hope.

So an interesting constellation for Anne Will’s TV round, beyond the old political order of battle that the viewer has long had. What one can observe: The affection between the Greens and the FDP is already working quite well, it is still tender buds, but the prospect of forming a “progressive government” seems to be euphoric on both sides.

It goes without saying that Konstantin von Notz, Member of the Green Party, clearly shows his preference for traffic lights, which is not surprising. What is more interesting, however, is how the FDP man Otto Fricke, to a certain extent, increases the distance to his favorite partner Union by the millimeter. For him, the question “With whom?” decisive, but what content you agree on. It is certainly easier with the Union, “but that does not mean that the better result will come out in the end”. That doesn’t really sound like affection anymore.

Manuela Schwesig, who has just achieved a huge election victory for the SPD in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, does not want to talk about the size of the differences that Anne Will is serving with the uncomfortable keyword “North Stream 2”, but rather about the fact that there are After the vote of the voters, it is now a matter of talking about common ground. And “reliability” is crucial for a coalition. In their eyes, of course, only Olaf Scholz offers that.

The most difficult part in this round, with three election winners, naturally comes from the big loser. Norbert Röttgen came for the Union, which in principle is a good idea in this situation. Because Röttgen can talk like Jamal Musiala plays football – when things go well, he elegantly snakes past the problems. But just as Jamal Musiala gets stuck when too many opponents block his way, so does Norbert Röttgen. The problems are just too big for him to get past them.

Even for a silver-tongued speaker like Röttgen, it is impossible to somehow moderate away the contradictions in the behavior of his party. On the one hand, the Union has a “need for renewal” in order to maintain its status as a people’s party. On the other hand, you have to remain able to talk, because the Greens and FDP have also declared that they are willing to talk to the Union. And this, according to Röttgen’s logic, is only possible with the elected staff.

Anne Will brutally hangs up at this point, as one would call it in football. “Do you want Armin Laschet to be Chancellor?”, She wants to know from Röttgen. At this point, Röttgen is finally dribbling. First you have to find common ground in the talks, “and then at the end there are personnel issues”. On the faces of Fricke and von Notz there is an amused smile that clearly has a compassionate touch. Only Manuela Schwesig briefly pulls out of her skin. “What you are telling here is a really big joke in a bag,” she snaps at Röttgen.

When Röttgen rumbled a little later on the question of whether Laschet should have resigned on the evening of the election, von Notz counters him with what is pretty much obvious to everyone: “There is an iron-hard power struggle in your store”. And who will win in the end is completely unpredictable at the moment. Norbert Röttgen, who fought hard himself, knows that too.

Peter Fahrenholz hopes that talk shows don’t always invite the same guests. Because political discussions need exciting arguments instead of well-known points of view.
