Turkish holiday region: Several forest fires are raging near Antalya

A residential area was evacuated as a precaution, tourists should not be affected so far: In Antalya emergency services are fighting on the ground and from the air against several large forest fires.

Several serious forest fires have broken out in the Turkish holiday region of Antalya. Winds drove the flames in the direction of the residential districts, as the district administrator of the Manavgat district, Mustafa Yigit, told the broadcaster CNN Türk. Three residential areas have been evacuated. Dark clouds of smoke and meter-high flames could be seen in the pictures.

A person with burn injuries

According to the DHA news agency, people in a hospital were also brought to safety. Tourists are currently not at risk, said Yigit. A person must be treated for severe burn injuries. Several residents had problems due to the heavy smoke development. Fatalities were initially not reported.

The emergency services fight the flames from the air and from the ground. According to the governor’s office, two fire-fighting planes and 15 helicopters are in use. District Administrator Yigit said reinforcements had been requested from other provinces. The cause of the fires is still unclear.
