Trouble again about Nazi carpets in the Regensburg town hall – Bavaria

For decades, three tapestries that come from the art collection of Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring have hung in the Old Town Hall. The city doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning that this might be stolen art.

Tabea Förth knows a lot about carpets and best of all those that hang in Regensburg. There she wrote her doctoral thesis on the carpets of the Thurn and Taxis dynasty, and there she researched all kinds of carpets, including those that hang in the prince’s cabinet in the Old Town Hall. And even then, four years ago, she could hardly believe what she found out. It’s not about what is depicted on the carpets, they are huge, three by three meters, 400 years old and show the heroic deeds of the Roman general Scipio. It’s about who they belonged to: Hermann Göring.
