The tropical cyclone “Shaheen” is approaching the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula at more than 120 kilometers per hour. Several deaths have already occurred in the Sultanate of Oman.
Oman is preparing for the arrival of the tropical cyclone “Shaheen”. The foothills of the cyclone have already reached the Sultanate; the eye of the storm is about 50 kilometers from the capital, Muscat, and is expected to hit land in the late afternoon (local time). “Shaheen” reaches wind speeds of more than 120 kilometers per hour. According to meteorologists, it will quickly weaken as it moves across the country.
Several dead, including a child
In Muscat, a child was thrown into the water by the storm. According to the state media, it was later found dead. According to the information, two workers from Asia died when a landslide struck and destroyed their housing in an industrial area. The population is called upon to leave the coastal areas. 2,700 people are already housed in emergency shelters. In Muscat, streets were inundated by rain and lashing waves. Numerous roads around the capital are closed; only emergency and ambulance transports are still allowed to pass.
Even the foothills of the cyclone were so violent that the waves hit several meters high over the promenades in Muscat.

The national crisis team announced that it would cut the power supply in particularly endangered areas in order to prevent accidents. Air traffic in Oman came to a standstill, take-offs and landings in Muscat had to be canceled. Preparations for protection against the cyclone are also being made in neighboring Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
