Tribute to the “Truman Show” for the poster of the 75th edition

Less than a month before the start of the official competition for the Palme d’Or, the 75th Cannes Film Festival unveiled its official poster on Tuesday, inspired by a cult scene from the film “The Truman Show”. We see a climb of the steps with a blue and cloudy sky as a background, “a poetic celebration of the elusive and of freedom”, according to the organizers.

“Like the unforgettable Truman embodied by Jim Carrey who brushes his horizon with his fingertips, the Cannes Film Festival takes note of the end of a world to apprehend it again, they indicate. Climate crisis, humanitarian disasters, armed conflicts: there are many reasons for concern. »

“Art and cinema contribute to the reinvention of the world”

In the film released in 1998, Jim Carrey plays an unspecified insurance agent, star despite himself of a cynical reality show of which he knows nothing.

“As in 1939 and then in 1946, Cannes reaffirms its conviction that art and cinema are places of reflection and contribute to the reinvention of the world”, added the organizers to explain the choice to draw inspiration from Peter Weir’s film. .

The Cannes Film Festival returns to its usual dates before the pandemic, from May 17 to 28. A total of 18 films have been announced for the most prestigious film competition in the world, including that of Russian filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov, who legally left his country in the wake of the invasion in Ukraine. The event must still announce the composition of the jury, its president and the closing film.
