The mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo paid tribute on Saturday to Brahim Bouarram, killed in 1995 on the sidelines of a parade of the National Front. Emmanuel Macron had a wreath laid at the scene of the tragedy in Paris.

“Today May 1, tribute to Brahim Bouarram, rushed into the Seine by far-right activists 26 years ago. Let’s never forget, ”tweeted the socialist mayor, who went to the Carrousel bridge where Brahim Bouarram had been pushed into the Seine by far-right activists on May 1, 1995 on the sidelines of an FN parade, during the period between the two rounds of the presidential election.

Four far-right activists were convicted in 1998 in this case by the Paris Assize Court.

“Racism remains a reality”

Anne Hidalgo was accompanied by several elected officials from the capital, including Audrey Pulvar, candidate for the regional elections. For his part, the president had a wreath laid in his name, as in 2018, we learned from a government source.

The Minister for Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Elisabeth Moreno, stressed on Twitter that “if the pain does not erase, memory must allow us to do everything so that these tragedies do not repeat themselves”.

“Racism remains a reality, which we must fight,” she added.
