He could appear in court soon. The Versailles prosecutor’s office last month requested a trial in the criminal court for Chérif Delay, one of the victims of the Outreau case, for death threats and aggravated violence in a case of domestic violence.
In this case, Chérif Delay, was initially indicted for attempted murder by spouse, a criminal qualification. He therefore risked being sent back to the assizes, where the penalties incurred are heavier. Chérif Delay is known for his status as a victim in the Outreau affair: when he was a child, he was raped and abused by his mother and stepfather, Myriam Badaoui and Thierry Delay.
He confesses to attempted murder, before recanting
Since then, his career has been chaotic, between stays in a psychiatric hospital and referrals to court: he has already been convicted 14 times since 2008, in particular for acts of domestic violence. On March 28, 2022 he was tried in immediate appearance at Versailles for violence against former companions. To everyone’s surprise, during the hearing, the defendant had admitted attempted murder, facts more serious than those for which he was tried. The case was then sent back to the investigation.
Chérif Delay then returned to his confession. While he is accused of having stabbed one of his former companions, “there is a doubt about the intention to kill him” at that time, notes the prosecution, which therefore requested a dismissal for the attempted murder and a referral to court for the violence and threats. The decision to refer the defendant to justice now rests with the examining magistrate.
