Trial for double murder begins in October – Bavaria

After the alleged double murder of a doctor couple in Mistelbach, Upper Franconia, the daughter and her boyfriend have to answer before the Bayreuth district court from October 19th. The judges had admitted the prosecutor’s charge of joint murder to the main hearing, the court said on Monday. A total of 16 days of negotiations until December 16 are scheduled for the trial before the 1st Large Youth Chamber of the Regional Court.

The male accused was 18 at the time of the crime and the couple’s daughter was 16 years old. According to the court, both are currently in custody. According to the findings of the investigators, the two had been a couple for several months at the time of the crime in January and had jointly decided to kill the girl’s parents. The motive was hate. Out of consideration for the accused and the surviving relatives of the dead, no further information on the background and course of the crime was given before the main hearing opened, the judicial authority said.

On the night of January 9, 2022, the 51-year-old pediatrician and his 47-year-old wife were allegedly stabbed to death while they were sleeping in their house in Mistelbach (Bayreuth district). The couple’s four children were in the home at the time of the crime. Neighbors heard screams and alerted the police. The then 18-year-old friend of the eldest daughter quickly became the focus of investigators. The young man and the daughter fled to Bayreuth after the crime and turned themselves in to the police. The involvement of the 18-year-old was therefore in the room from the start. Six weeks later, an arrest warrant was issued against the 16-year-old. According to the investigators, she is said to have “enabled the unhindered execution of the crime and thereby made an active contribution to the homicide”.

Mistelbach is located a few kilometers from Bayreuth and has around 1500 inhabitants. The double murder had caused great dismay and sympathy in the community.
