Train strike in Munich: Regional providers continue to be affected – Munich

Many commuters in and around Munich can breathe easy. The 50-hour strike at Deutsche Bahn, originally scheduled from 10 p.m. Sunday to midnight Tuesday night, was averted at almost the last minute after the company and rail union EVG agreed to a settlement. The strike would have led to massive restrictions in both long-distance and regional transport. The range of domestic flights had even been increased to meet the needs of the affected commuters.

Despite the cancellation, however, “there could be restrictions on the range of long-distance and local trains in the next few days,” said the railway. The background is the “enormous challenge” of rescheduling the approximately 50,000 train journeys that have already been canceled. However, regional trains and the Munich S-Bahn should run according to the regular timetable as far as possible.

Nevertheless, there will be severe restrictions on some routes in Munich and the surrounding area in the coming days. Because the employees of the three regional train providers Bayerische Oberlandbahn (BOB), Meridian and Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) should start the 50-hour strike as planned. The EVG communicated this on request, and representatives of BRB and BOB also commented accordingly.

The three providers belong to Transdev GmbH, the second largest railway and bus company active in Germany after Deutsche Bahn. Despite the planned start of the strike at 10 p.m., according to the transport provider, the first restrictions may already come into effect as early as 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. Passengers are asked to inform themselves in advance about possibly canceled trains. All BOB routes to and from Bayerischzell, Lenggries and Tegernsee and the meridian routes to and from Salzburg, Kufstein and Rosenheim are affected. All BRB routes to and from Schongau, Ingolstadt, Eichstätt, Augsburg Hauptbahnhof and Gessertshausen, as well as routes to and from Ruhpolding, Füssen, Buchloe and Landsberg are also on strike.
