Due to damage caused by beaver burrows, the tourist resort of Oberstdorf in the Allgäu will remain cut off from rail traffic until mid-November. Repair work has been underway since last week after damage to a railway embankment caused by beavers was noticed in October, a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn said on Thursday. Accordingly, the cavities in the beaver burrows will be filled over a distance of 600 meters. Steel nets and river building blocks are intended to prevent the animals from causing further destruction. An expert is also continuing to check the condition and stability of the railway embankment, said the spokeswoman. Accordingly, buses and taxis will continue to run between Sonthofen and Oberstdorf to replace the canceled rail connections.
