Trade show in Ebersberg – again nothing to see – Ebersberg

For the second time in a row, the EGA trade show will be canceled. The organizers – the cities of Ebersberg and Grafing – have now announced this. The traditional fair usually takes place every two years, alternating in Grafing and Ebersberg. The next EGA would actually have opened there in spring this year, but the fair was canceled due to Corona. The pandemic is also the reason for the renewed cancellation, organizers and exhibitors see no planning security for the coming spring.

“We find it very difficult to do so, but in view of the uncertain corona situation and possibly immense hygiene requirements, holding on to the implementation of the EGA does not seem sensible to us from today’s perspective.” This is what it says in a current press release from the two town halls. The mayors of the cities of Grafing, deputizing for Christian Bauer, the second mayor Johannes Oswald and Ebersberg, Ulrich Proske, are in agreement. The decision to cancel was made late on Tuesday “in a lively meeting of the EGA interest group (IG-EGA),” it continues. In addition to the two mayors and their economic promoters, the district of Ebersberg, the chairmen of the respective trade associations, the district master craftsmen and the Chamber of Industry and Crafts are represented in the IG-EGA.

The companies and operations currently did not want to commit to a trade fair that may then be canceled again, write the organizers. In addition, the tent rental company will soon need a firm and therefore paid commitment. “We should wait until such a big event can be safely planned again, for us and for our members”, emphasize Stephan Scharnagl and Hans Hörner, the local chairmen of the trade association in Ebersberg and Grafing. At the moment, however, considerations are still underway as to whether replacement events can take place. In the town halls and at the trade association, for example, it is at least possible that there could be virtual offers or hybrid events instead of the trade fair in the next few months.

The cancellation of the EGA originally planned for this year came much more abruptly. The city of Ebersberg said in December that they expected the EGA 2021 to take place at the end of April as planned. The end was then announced at the end of January, also at that time the town hall chiefs, the economic development department in the district office, representatives of the two trade associations and the organizers had come to the conclusion that a major event like the EGA could not be held due to the corona situation could. After all, in recent years more than 10,000 visitors have been welcomed to the long EGA weekend, and in some years it was even more than twice as many. At the beginning of the year, the exhibitors had also seen this problem in this way, because three months before the planned date there were hardly any firm commitments or the willingness to pay the exhibition fees in advance. And without this guarantee, the stand builder did not want to get involved.

At least for everyone who enjoys round birthdays, the renewed postponement has something good: If the next EGA could take place in Ebersberg in 2023, the next trade show would be in Grafing in 2025 – exactly 40 years after the first “Grafinger trade show for trade, Trade and Crafts “had taken place. In 1991 this merged with the “Ebersberg Trade Fair for Consumption and Investment”, which had been launched ten years earlier, to form the EGA.
