Trade – Less shoplifting – Economy

In the second year of Corona, the number of shoplifters in German retail has fallen again. According to a study by the Cologne-based retail research institute EHI, retail losses due to theft in 2021 totaled 3.23 billion euros. That was four percent less than in the previous year. In the first Corona year 2020, shoplifting even fell by ten percent, not least because of the shop closures caused by the pandemic. According to the study, retail companies spent more than one billion euros on security measures in 2021 to protect their goods.
