30 miles – O’Connor lagging behind
Ben O’Connor (Ag2r Citroen), last year’s Tour fourth, had a defect and is now being brought back towards the peloton by some teammates. However, he is already more than a minute behind! This is going to be a really difficult task!
50 km – Asgreen quintet recaptured
The group with Asgreen didn’t get far and were caught again. But things are slowly getting serious in the main field. If you want to win the stage, you have to do something slowly. Because the leaders still have 2:55 minutes!
54 km – Sector 10: Quick-Step attacked
3:10 minutes are still on the clock between the six escapees and the peloton. But now it’s off to a good start! Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl is going full throttle with Kasper Asgreen at the helm! Four men join immediately: Mathieu van der Poel, Mads Pedersen and Alberto Bettiol plus a second Quick-Step man.
65 km – Quick-Step retrieves Duo
The six leaders are still 3:18 minutes ahead of the main field, which has now collected Bauer and Pedersen again. The duo have realized that this push was relatively pointless.
72 km – Pedersen and Bauer attack
The first sector is history and you have to remember: The Slovenians Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic were right at the front – strong performance. After the cobbles, Mads Pedersen (Trek – Segafredo) and Jack Bauer (BikeExchange – Jayco) are now attacking from the peloton to make their way and close the 3-minute gap to the front.
77 km – The cobblestones are calling!
Our top six reach sector 11 at Villers-au-Tertre, the first cobblestone section. The peloton is still 3:35 minutes behind, but is now rushing through the prairie at high speed. The fights for positions are in full swing – and Van Aert is far behind and doesn’t seem to be completely fit again.
87 km – Yellow back in the peloton
It took quite a while because the peloton obviously doesn’t slow down so close to the first cobblestone sectors. But after a little more than ten kilometers, Van Aert and Kruisjwijk finally managed to catch up with the main field again.
98 km – Van Aert on the ground
Fall off the yellow jersey! Wout Van Aert went down after tangling with team-mate Steven Kruijswijk when the peloton in front of them braked at the exit of a roundabout. Both are quickly back on the bike and are now chasing after the peloton. That is currently around 3:30 minutes behind the top six.

We’re still a long way from the first cobblestone sector, but we’ve already seen the first falls. Now Max Walscheid (Cofidis) goes down in the middle of the field in a very strange way. It looks as if it suddenly knocks the handlebars out of his hand. But then you can see that his front wheel is broken. He waits for a replacement and then drives on immediately.

The leading trio around Cort Nielsen are nearly 20 seconds clear and now another trio is breaking away from the peloton: Neilson Powless (EF Education – EasyPost), Simon Clarke (Israel – Premier Tech) and Alexis Gougeard (B&B Hotels – KTM). ).
