For the first time since the “World’s 50 Best Bars” awards were presented, there is no establishment from London or New York in first place.
Barcelona on the rise
But don’t worry: Bars from the two metropolises are still well represented, four times among the top ten alone. In fact, Barcelona is likely to outstrip both cities’ reputation as the best places for exceptional bars. Because not only is the “Paradiso” in the top ten, but also the “Sips” and the “Two Schmucks”, both addresses in Gaudí-City.
Even places where you wouldn’t expect exclusive bars belong to the secret addresses for extraordinary drinks. The “Licorería Limantour” in Mexico City made it to fourth place, the “Alquímico” in Cartagena just under the top ten.
New York’s “Double Chicken Please” made the best new entry on the list, while the “Connaught Bar” in London suffered the biggest drop. While the “best hotel bar in the world” was the winner last year, the two-time leader of the list only came in eighth this year.
Germany not among the top 100
It is obviously even sadder to run a bar in Germany. Because although there are enough great addresses for exciting drinks in cities like Munich, Hamburg or Berlin, once again no candidate made it into the list of the best 50 bars in the world. On the contrary: no bar from Germany even made it into the top 100.
In terms of sheer volume of options, however, New York and London remain at the forefront – they simply have the most excellent establishments. Small exception: ten of the top 100 stores are in Singapore.
