Too few employees – trip

More and more hoteliers and restaurateurs in Germany state that they have a problem because of the lack of skilled workers. According to a recent survey by the Ifo Institute, 56 percent of hotel and guest house operators said they had too few staff. In the catering trade it is 34 percent. This means that the two service branches are among the branches most severely affected by the shortage of skilled workers. In retail there were around 30 percent of companies in industry that complained about a shortage of skilled workers. “Since the economy picked up after the Corona openings, companies are now having difficulties finding qualified employees,” wrote the Ifo Institute. The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), for example, attributes the reason why the hotel and catering industry have bigger problems than other areas to the lockdowns and the associated insecurity of a job in a hotel or restaurant. Other industry experts see the relatively poor pay and working hours in the evenings and on weekends as the main reasons why many former gastronomy employees have migrated to other industries.
