“It’s really a cliché” – new MP Annika Klose reveals which lobbyists came up first

When politicians are elected to parliament for the first time, there are a lot of new things to coordinate: topics, dates – and mail. Annika Klose told the “heute show” who the first letters on her desk came from.
Much has been written and reported about the young new parliament in recent weeks. The “heute show” also wants to find out how freshmen are doing and how the start is going. “More fresh air in the Bundestag. Almost 40 percent of the MPs are there for the first time,” says moderator Oliver Welke and sends Fabian Köster to the “Greenhorn” parliament, as Welke calls it. Köster meets the youngest MP Emilia Fester, 23, from the Greens, and Annika Klose, 29, from the SPD.
The comedian first picks up insignificant statements like “It’s exciting” and “The building is huge and blatant” and gives Fester a school bag with almost no content, because “there is no speed limit, no loosening of the debt brake and no tax increases”. So far, so moderately entertaining.
Annika Klose: “This is lobby post”
Then Köster visits Klose in her office, looks around, finds papers and asks: “What kind of paperwork is there now?” And Klose chats a little about the letters. “This is lobby mail,” she says. “I got lobby mail during the election campaign, from oil companies and temporary employment agencies, and they were the first to report,” she says, adding: “The first thing I had in my mailbox when I got to the Bundestag was from the gun lobby.” Her conclusion: “It is really a cliché.”
In the aftermath of Karl Lauterbach, Köster asked what Annika Klose had to pay attention to. Lauterbach has humorous tips: “Here you go with the flow,” he jokes. Or: “Even in the matter of the matter, criticism was justified very sparingly. Especially in the first few years.” Lauterbach advises ideals in politics with a wink: “You can have ideals, that’s not the problem at all. You can’t show them.” What Köster did not ask, but inwardly perhaps Annika Klose: Does the idea of ideals also apply to answering lobbyists’ mail?
