To the Stiftl in the old town: Tavern kitchen at the tourist hotspot – Munich

Less can be more: “Oide Wiesn” host Lorenz Stiftl has opened a new, smaller establishment on the Weinstrasse. The concept with a Bavarian menu including concessions to international guests works despite the higher prices.

Did the man miss his job? After all, it’s part of the basic repertoire of every Bavarian innkeeper to lament the world itself and one’s own business in particular as bad to lousy. But when asked how things are going in the new house on the Weinstrasse, Lorenz Stiftl looks happily at the area and says succinctly with a big grin on his face: “It’s going well.” This is all the more astonishing given that the Lower Bavarian Munich “Oide Wiesn” innkeeper at the new address has become much smaller than it used to be down in the valley, even though two open-air areas at the back and front promise good business in the summer. But maybe less is sometimes more in the hospitality business.
