To mark the 150th birthday of the Bayerwald poet Emerenz Meier, her work is being republished – Bavaria

Emerenz Meier, born 150 years ago, is one of the most important Bavarian authors, but was underestimated as a writer for a long time. The fact that she has not been forgotten is thanks, among other things, to her biographer and editor Hans Göttler. Although her life was largely characterized by poverty, failure and homelessness, that is precisely why she is a role model for Göttler.

Emerenz Meier, born on October 3, 1874 in Schiefweg in the Bavarian Forest, is one of the most important Bavarian writers. Even as a young woman she achieved great fame with her stories and poems. However, her writing talent did not provide her with sufficient income. In 1906 she emigrated to America, but there she did not find happiness and died in misery in 1928.
