To fight against tax evasion, Gabriel Attal wants to question the file of airlines

The objective of this measure is to identify fraudsters who declare to reside abroad and “who therefore do not pay their taxes in France”, justifies on the set of BFMTV the Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts.

The government presented its “battle plan” against tax evasion on Tuesday. A necessary fight, pleaded on the set of BFMTV the Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts Gabriel Attal, who proposes to go further to identify the biggest fraudsters.

In particular by “mobilizing the file of airline companies”, to “verify the time spent on national territory by people who say that they are not resident in France and who therefore do not pay their taxes in France”, explains Gabriel Attal.

The Minister announces on BFMTV that the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (Cnil) will be seized and specifies that these future cross-checks of data between those of the tax service and those of the airlines will not be “automatic”.

“When There’s Doubt”

“I want the General Directorate of Public Finance, when there is doubt about a taxpayer who declares that he is not resident in France (…) to be able to query the file of the airline companies to check when the person took a plane from destination of France”, continues the Minister.

“In cases where the tax administration has questions, doubts, [il faut] that it can query the file of the airlines, this is called a right of communication”, insists Gabriel Attal.

On BFMTV in March, Gabriel Attal had already offered to rely on airlines to track social fraud. “It is not a question of coping” the beneficiaries, “when you receive funds from national solidarity, you must be entitled to receive them”, justified the minister.

After presenting this Tuesday its measures against tax evasion, the government will unveil at the end of the month those “against social fraud.
