It had recently become quiet around her: in the past 15 years, Tina Turner has rarely appeared in public. Now the rock icon has died at the age of 83 after a long illness, according to a spokesman. Turner had lived in Switzerland with her partner Erwin Bach for more than 20 years.
The musician could look back on a long and successful career. She rose to fame with her husband Ike in the ’60s and ’70s. After a painful divorce, she started a successful solo career with hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”, “Proud Mary”, “We Don’t Need Another Hero” or “Be Tender with Me Baby”.

In her private life, she had to accept a few strokes of fate: her two sons died before her, aged 59 and 62. In 2017, her partner donated one of his kidneys to her. Turner had colon cancer and kidney failure.
